The Project
Alcoa of Australia Ltd (Alcoa) produces almost 43 per cent of Australia’s alumina and approximately 20 per cent of Australia’s aluminium. Their Australian operations represent one of the largest integrated bauxite mining, alumina refining and aluminium smelting systems in the world.
Since 2006 the Alcoa Capital Projects Group has outsourced its HSE requirements to IMS through a unique total integrated HSE management service across the various Alcoa locations in Western Australia. In November 2009 Alcoa expanded the scope of the IMS contract to include contract management services for minor capital projects and maintenance across the Alcoa Western Australian Operations.
IMS Service Provision
IMS Contractor Management & Project Services are provided to Alcoa via an integrated service model with IMS personnel embedded in the Alcoa Team. IMS currently engages more than 40 personnel across the Alcoa locations.
• Contractor Services Group, Kwinana / Pinjarra / Wagerup Refineries
IMS provides specialist resources into the Alcoa Contractor Services Teams covering Team Leaders, Alcoa Contractor Services Specialists and Safety personnel responsible for supervision and management of contractors engaged by Alcoa to undertake maintenance activities and minor capital works. The roles ensure mechanical, electrical, civils, infrastructure and facilities maintenance is performed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, budgets, schedules and compliance with Alcoa EHS standards.
• Capital Projects
IMS specialist resources include Construction Managers, Construction Co-ordinators and Safety personnel accountable for the coordination of all construction activities and execution of single or multiple construction projects.
• Shut Downs
IMS provides specialist resources to coordinate and manage contractors engaged on shutdowns and major overhauls of Calciner Units, Liquor Burner Plants, Cogeneration Power Plants and Refinery plant and equipment.

- IMS celebrated four (4) years injury free across its business operations at Alcoa locations in January 2017.
- IMS maintains a Shut Down pool of resources for short term assignments and urgent Client
coverage requirements.
